Phone Numbers tab Tutorial Video
The phone numbers tab of the phone setup page is where to manage your Ringy phone numbers.
We recommend having a phone number for each state that you do business in to reach your leads with a phone number local to them. In the Purchase Phone Numbers section, you can purchase phone numbers based either on state or area code by selecting your preferred option. Ringy automatically assigns a lead a phone number in their state the first time you call or text the lead. If you have multiple phone numbers in a particular state, we will assign the lead a phone number if the area code matches the lead’s area code exactly. If none of the phone numbers you purchased in that state matches the lead’s area code, the phone number assigned in their state will be random. If you do not have a phone number in the lead’s state, Ringy will use your default phone number to contact the lead with.
Due to mandatory A2P 10DLC registration requirements, as of September 1, 2023, you will not be able to send text messages from local phone numbers unless you're fully registered with A2P 10DLC. Additionally, you can only text from a toll-free phone number if its registration is fully approved. Toll-free phone numbers have their own registration, different from A2P 10DLC. Your toll-free phone number's registration needs to be fully approved in order to send text messages from it. Toll-free phone numbers can be purchased by navigating to the Phone Setup page in the left hand menu, and under the Phone Numbers tab. You can still receive text messages on both toll-free and local phone numbers, and utilize them for inbound as well as outbound calls regardless of your account's registration status.
Phone numbers can be purchased using phone number credits, which will automatically be used if they’re on your account, or by drawing from your account balance. Phone numbers are charged for renewal every 30 days from the purchase date or since the last renewal.
Whenever a lead is calling you, you can determine where that inbound call is routed to in the drop down beside the Welcome button in the top right corner of your account.
The My Phone Numbers section lists your Ringy phone numbers. Using the More button next to a phone number, you can assign a status or delete a number. The statuses are detailed in the Phone number status legend in the My Phone Numbers section.
One phone number needs to be your default number. This phone number is assigned to leads you receive in a state you do not have a phone number in and for text notifications from Ringy. You can change your default number, by choosing the More button beside a different number you would like to change it to.
Another option from the More menu next to each number is the Detach from leads option. This option un-assigns it from any leads it is currently assigned to.
When you select to delete a phone number, you are prompted as to whether you’d like to retain the phone number for 30 days so that it can continue to receive inbound communication from your leads. If you select no to this prompt, the phone number is immediately deleted. If you click yes, your account is charged $1 for that phone number’s last renewal and it appears in the Phone Numbers Pending Deletion section. If you’d like to delete a number sooner after you’ve selected to keep it for 30 days, you can do so by clicking the More button.
Phone Number Statuses:
- Active - can send and receive calls and texts.
- Inactive - can receive calls and texts, but will not be used for outbound calls and texts for new leads in the future. You are still charged for inactive phone numbers.
- Default - if you do not have a phone number in a particular state, we will choose this phone number for calls and texts.
- Special number - this phone number will be used for all outbound calls made to leads that have never sent you a text message. The first time a lead texts you, the phone number used for that lead will then be updated.
- Used for live transfers - this phone number is assigned to one of your lead vendors for live transfer leads while creating the lead vendor distribution in the Lead Vendors page. You must unlink this phone number from your lead vendor if you want to delete it from your account. If you are only receiving live transfers to your personal account, and not your team, then you just need to give the other party sending you live transfers one of your Ringy phone numbers.
All phone numbers you get through Ringy are dedicated phone numbers for your use only. We also do not reuse phone numbers. When another user deletes a phone number from their account it is completely disconnected from Ringy. There is only a very small chance you would get another user's old phone number.
