In order to integrate with Mailgun, you will need to have your own email domain capable of adding a DNS record to it. In other words, you cannot use your gmail account, but your work email domain is a possibility. For example, Ringy employees would use their @ringy.com email addresses, but @gmail.com would not work for integration. Please refer to step 15 for more information on what is required.
Here are the steps to set up Mailgun integration:
- Create a Mailgun account using the same email address associated with your Ringy account: https://signup.mailgun.com/new/signup
- Check your email address for an email from Mailgun to verify your email address. Check your spam folder just in case.
- Once your account is created, you will be met with a guide to help with getting started. First, click “Get Started” in the Create an API Key section. Choose Create API Key again.
- Enter, “default” for the description.
- Your API Key will then populate, which you need to copy and paste into your Ringy account. Save the API Key somewhere for your records in the event the next step to create the domain name cannot be done immediately.
- Navigate to the Marketing page in the left hand menu, choose Email from the drop down, click the Settings tab, and select Mailgun under the Email Setup section. This is where you paste your Mailgun API Key.
- In Mailgun, click “Get started” again on the left navigation bar.
- Choose “Get started” below the Add a Custom Domain section.
- Enter the domain name. For example, “mail.ringy.com.” or more specifically, “mail.[your business name.com”
- Domain region, keep US as default
- IP assignment option, keep Shared IP as default
- For Advanced settings, keep “Self-manage DKIM keys” as default, and 1024 as DKIM key length
- Example:
- Choose “Add Domain”
- Now contact your IT department to add DNS “TXT” records, providing them with the Host and Value populated.
- Once done, add that domain name into Ringy, and click SAVE to integrate with Mailgun!
- You will not be able to save the API Key without a domain name, and without your email domain actually adding DNS "TXT" records.
